5 things that could go right/wrong for Flyers

Posted by Eric Fisher On October 4

The Flyers could win a few rounds in the playoffs or miss the postseason. Here are five factors that could be the difference between success and failure.

5 things that could go right for the Flyers

  1. Brian Elliott plays as if he’s fully recovered from his injuries, providing a steady and reliable force in goal.
  2. Ivan Provorov and Shayne Gostisbehere could become the leaders of a young and dynamic defense.
  3. James van Riemsdyk helps the Flyers develop an elite power play.
  4. Young forwards Travis Konecny and Oskar Lindblom provide the Flyers with plenty of energy and goals.
  5. Head coach Dave Hakstol guides the team to a victory in a playoff series for the first time since 2012.

5 things that could go wrong for Flyers

  1. Brian Elliott continues to deal with injuries, turning the Flyers’ net into a revolving door of backups.
  2. The younger defensemen (Travis Sanheim and Robert Hagg) don’t improve significantly and the veterans (Andrew MacDonald, Radko Gudas and Christian Folin) drag the defense down.
  3. James van Riemsdyk helps a little bit on the power play, but turns out to be a detriment at even strength.
  4. Young forwards Travis Konecny and Oskar Lindblom don’t improve significantly, leading to a lack of trust from head coach Dave Hakstol.
  5. The players stop believing that Dave Hakstol is the coach who can lift the team to playoff success, so they tune him out, costing the Flyers a playoff berth and leading to a search for a new head coach.
