WEEK 6

This is a week full of tight lines. As of Tuesday, which is when I must make my selections each week due to Thursday Night Football, only one game – Falcons -8½ over the visiting Raiders – has a point spread greater than five points . Naturally, the Falcons are my “best bet” this week.

With so many games expected to be close, I think the Falcons are one of the few sure winners on the board this week – or as sure as we can get in the NFL these days. That’s without taking the point spread into account.

I also like some of the small home favorites. In particular, I like the Jets (-3) over the Colts, the Ravens (-3½) over the Cowboys, and the Redskins (-1½) over the Vikings. The Bucs (-3½) over the visiting Chiefs almost made it into my top five.

I’m not just going with home cooking, though. I like seven road teams, although I only like one of them enough to pull the trigger and put it in my “other top picks.” After getting the Bengals (-3½ over the visiting Dolphins) wrong last week for the first time this season, I’m going to reluctantly select them (-2½) at Cleveland in the final game of the easy portion of their schedule. The Bengals’ schedule becomes much more difficult during their final 10 games.

I think the Eagles (-4½) might finally break loose with a comfortable win against the visiting Lions, but it’s difficult to be confident about a spread that large for a team that has had four of its five games decided by two or fewer points. My recommendation would be to stay away from Eagles-Lions.
