Suicide pool advice for week 5
Week 4: 11-4, 3-1 on recommended picks
Overall: 38-25 (60%), 10-6 on recommended picks (63%)
I AM VINDICATED!
I was actually sitting at 11-1, before my last 3 picks went south – one on a made field goal, one on a missed field goal and one because…DALLAS SUCKS!
But I digress.
Because I chose to lay down the gauntlet and blame the replacement refs for my 7-9/1-3 showing in week 3.
I articulated why I believed that the integrity of the NFL was at stake and how the lines between good and not-so-good teams were becoming too blurred for the league’s own good.
And someone listened.
Because just as I posted my picks, a deal got done to bring the regular officials back.
So now the question isn’t so much whether it was the refs’ fault (it was), but whether I can provide good picks, at the 65% or so clip you’ve become accustomed to and the 75% or so on recommended picks.
By the way…thank you Matt Ryan!
1. Bengals over Dolphins
The Dolphins lost a heartbreaker to Arizona in week 4. Ryan Tannehill actually looked good against the same defense that made the Eagles’ offensive line and Michael Vick look so bad the week before. All that tells me is that things will fall apart quickly for Miami this week against another tough opponent.
2. Packers over Colts
Not that I’m big on picking road teams, but the Packers survived a scare against Drew Brees and the desperate Saints. The Colts don’t figure to play with as much emotion, while Green Bay hits the road for the first time since they had a game stolen from them in Seattle. I expect them to score early and often and make sure this game is put away so that it can’t be taken away.
3. Vikings over Titans
I – and many others – thought the Vikings would be at the bottom of the NFC North. Instead, they’re tied for the top spot with the Bears. Do I believe in them? Not really. But Tennessee is among the worst teams in the NFL right now, having given up a league high 151 points in only 4 games.
4. Giants over Browns
I’m a little leery of this one – not only do the Giants have somewhat of a short week after a tough Sunday night game in Philadelphia, they have a penchant for losing at least one game at home to a bad opponent. Then again, I said I would pick against Cleveland every week. Say it with me…”Why. Stop. Now?”
Other week 5 picks:
STL over AZ
BAL over KC
PIT over PHI
ATL over WASH
CAR over SEA
JAX over CHI
NE over DEN
SF over BUF
NO over SD
HOU over NYJ
