Career playoff points for Sidney Crosby, who had hat trick Friday

Putting it on the Line

Posted by Eric Fisher On September 3

Welcome back to another year of “Putting it on the Line!” For those reading this feature for the first time, I believe that honesty is the best policy.

In other words, there won’t be any guaranteed, game-of-the-year, once-in-a-lifetime mortal locks. If I don’t feel strongly about a pick, I’ll tell you.

For example, the first week of the season is a complete crapshoot. You take your chances with hunches, but there’s not a lot of evidence upon which to make selections.

But my job is to make picks. And I’m going to do my job. Other than saying I particularly like the Chiefs as home underdogs against the Falcons, I won’t waste any time analyzing first-week games.

So, without further ado, the following are my Week 1 selections:

(Home team in CAPS)

(Winning team against the line in bold)

GIANTS -4 vs. Cowboys

BEARS -9½ vs. Colts

Eagles -8½ at BROWNS

Bills +3 vs. JETS

SAINTS -9 vs. Redskins

Patriots -6½ at TITANS

VIKINGS -4 vs. Jaguars

TEXANS -10½ vs. Dolphins

Rams +8½ at LIONS

CHIEFS +2½ vs. Falcons

PACKERS -5½ vs. 49ers

Panthers -2½ at BUCS

CARDINALS +2½ vs. Seahawks

BRONCOS -1 vs. Steelers

RAVENS -6 vs. Bengals

CHARGERS -1½ at RAIDERS

Best bet: CHIEFS +2½ vs. Falcons

Other top picks: SAINTS -9 vs. Redskins; Panthers -2½ at BUCS; BRONCOS -1 vs. Steelers; CHARGERS -1½ at RAIDERS
