Carnival creates new memories

Posted by Eric Fisher On February 20

The 35th Annual Flyers Wives Carnival was a terrific opportunity for fans to meet their favorite players, play video games, or simply to bounce around, meet new friends and have some fun. And the money raised goes to charity.

The Flyers Wives Carnival embodies the past, present and future.

The past is represented by the numerous former Flyers at the carnival, as well as the thousands of fans who line up all the way down “alumni alley” to meet them. The present is represented by the current Flyers who play video games with fans, dance with fans, sign autographs, pose for pictures, etc. The future is represented by all the young fans who attend the carnival, meet their heroes and create memories that will last a lifetime.

From the players to their wives to the alumni to the fans, the carnival is all about family. And it’s all for a good cause. The money raised is donated to charities and community organizations throughout the Delaware Valley

Mary Ann Saleski speaks about the evolution of the Carnival, which actually started in February 1977, just months before Barry Ashbee’s leukemia diagnosis and untimely passing.

The LCB line (from left, Reggie Leach, Bob Clarke, Bill Barber) was reunited in the alumni photo booth. Note that Leach and Barber sit to Clarke’s right and left, respectively, staying on their “proper” wings.

A carnival tradition is that rookies, such as Matt Read, must serve their time in the dunk tank.

A groin injury will sideline Tom Sestito for 6-8 weeks, but it didn’t prevent him from playing Wii boxing with fans on Sunday. Matt Carle also found plenty of competition off the ice Sunday.
