Top 10 List: Longest NBA, NHL title droughts

Posted by Ron Opher On May 30

With the Boston Bruins having won the Stanley Cup last season and the Los Angeles Kings winning the Cup this season, our original list of the NBA and NHL teams with the longest championship droughts is now an even 10:

10. Milwaukee Bucks (last won NBA championship 1971)

6-9. Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Braves/San Diego, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers (all entered their respective leagues as expansion teams in the 1970-71 season and none have won a championship)

5. Phoenix Suns (entered the NBA as an expansion team in the 1968-69 season and have not won a championship)

*4. St. Louis Blues (entered the NHL as an expansion team in the 1967-68 season and only franchise still active from that expansion to not win the Stanley Cup)

3. Toronto Maple Leafs (last won Stanley Cup in 1967)

2. St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks (last won NBA championship in 1958, moved to Atlanta in 1968)

1. Rochester/Cincinnati Royals, Kansas City-Omaha/Kansas City/Sacramento Kings (last won NBA championship in 1951, moved to Cincinnati in 1957, moved to Kansas City in 1972, also played games in Omaha until 1975, moved to Sacramento in 1985)

*Also worthy of note: The Denver Nuggets (known as the Denver Rockets until 1974) played in the ABA from 1967-1976 and in the NBA from 1976-present and did not win a championship in either league
